John Williams’ Star Wars score named as best movie soundtrack of all time

John Williams’ Star Wars score has been named the nation’s favourite movie music in a BBC poll.

The composition beat Ennio Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly to reach the top of the poll to find the greatest film soundtrack of all time.

The music comes from the original Star Wars film, later renamed Episode IV: A New Hope.

Also on the list are Hans Zimmer’s music for The Dark Knight Rises and the Rogers and Hammerstein soundtrack to The Sound of Music.

Music from Vertigo, Grease and Apocalypse Now also landed in the top ten, voted for by the public from a shortlist put together by broadcasters and movie music experts.
