Brand Takes ‘I Have a Dream’ Anniversary as an Opportunity to Embarrass Itself

My mom is fond of saying that it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Unfortunately, it seems the social media ninjas at the Golf Channel’s Twitter account lack this reporter’s direct access to homespun South Georgia wisdom. Because this is what they tweeted today, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech:

Maybe the idea was to provide golfers with an opportunity to hassle the Augusta National (and, hey, golf generally) for its long history of exclusion, but we doubt it.

They’ve already deleted it–presumably when a supervisor got wind of an intern’s colossal cock-up–but on the Internet nothing ever dies. Except of course our dreams of a Twitter where brands aren’t constantly stinking up the place with bad jokes and poorly considered attempts at topicality.
