Ricky Gervais’ most recent TV series, Derek, is to make its debut on Netflix later this year, it has been announced.
The comedy, which is viewed by many as a gentle follow-up to his previous series The Office and Extras, will air on the subscription service from September onwards.
‘Ricky Gervais is one of the most distinctive comedy voices of his generation,’ said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, as the news was announced.
‘With Derek, Ricky takes on new territory and mixes comedy with drama that is sometimes touching and sometimes heartbreaking. We are proud to partner with Ricky to present this unique and wonderful series to our members.’
Derek follows the story of the eponymous hero, a simple-minded but kind character who works in an old people’s home.
