David Beckham breaks down in tears after Paris Saint-Germain send-off


David Beckham broke down in tears after playing what is likely the last match of his professional career at the Parc des Princes in Paris last night.

The former England captain, who this week announced he will hang up his boots at the end of the season, could not contain his emotion as team-mates rushed to hug him after he was substituted in the 81st minute of Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 Ligue 1 win over Brest.

‘To end my career in front of a crowd like that, with players like that, it’s very special,” said PSG captain-for-the-night Beckham after the final whistle, adding that he was already welling up before he was taken off.

‘It started about 20 minutes before that, to be honest. I started thinking and then, you know, I couldn’t concentrate by then, and it was difficult,’ he added. ‘You know, you try to hold the emotion back…
