Southland: Fans mourn police drama as it is cancelled by TNT after five seasons

Southland has been axed by TNT, with the network saying it was a ‘difficult decision’ and that it is ‘enormously proud’ of the show.

The show took a raw look at crime in Los Angeles and the LAPD officers fighting it and starred Benjamin McKenzie and Michael Cudlitz.

The show was resurrected by TNT after it was dropped by NBC following season 2 but now looks to be out of commission (quite literally) for good.

‘TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season,’ the network said in a statement. ‘We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made.’

Southland could only muster 1.8 million viewers for the season 5 finale in the US and faced similarly diminutive ratings for its Channel 4 broadcast in the UK, despite being highly praised by critics.
