The lead singer of a heavy metal band has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kill his wife.
Tim Lambesis, frontman of Grammy-nominated As I Lay Dying, is accused of trying to hire an undercover detective to kill his estranged wife Meggan.
The 32-year-old musician was detained yesterday in Oceanside, southern California, the San Diego county sheriff’s department confirmed.
A spokeswoman for the department said: ‘The information came to us late last week. We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy.’
Lambesis formed his band in 2000 and they have since released six albums including 2007’s US Top Ten release An Ocean Between Us.
The group is due to start a US tour later this month.
His estranged wife Meggan, who filed for divorce last year, lives in nearby Encinitas with three children the couple adopted from Ethiopia.
