FERGUSON, MO (KTVI)– Students at Airport Elementary School in Berkley were left without running water for more than two hours on Wednesday.
The situation was caused by a water main break.
The district said it ordered portable toilets and hand washing stations right away, but the company it contracts with for those things took more than two hours to arrive with the items.
Students, who had to use the bathroom, were eventually bussed to City Hall, but several of them had to use toilets that did not flush for a couple hours.
Dominuque Ruff is a 6th grader at Airport Elementary.
“It was really nasty, and the toilets were filled with tissue, pee and stuff,” she said. “I just wanted to go home and use the bathroom.”
The district did call parents and explain the situation and letting them know that they could take their children home if they want.
