On Friday (May 3) the San Francisco Giants celebrated Metallica Day at AT&T Park. The first annual festivities included special limited edition Metallica themed Giants gear and a special appearance from the band.
The day kicked off with lead singer and guitarist James Hetfield and guitarist Kirk Hammett performing the national anthem. The rock rendition was followed by drummer Lars Ulrich throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to Giants closer Sergio Romo.
The Giants have a long history of partnering with musicians with their annual Grateful Dead Tribute Night (August 9) and inviting the Bay Area natives for a night was a perfect fit for fans and the band.
