Iron Man 3 has stormed to the top of the US box office, scoring the second biggest opening weekend of all time.
The third instalment of the Marvel superhero franchise took $175.3m (£112.5m) in ticket sales.
It failed to beat the $207.4m (£133.1m) record set by The Avengers last year but the impressive figure means it has bagged the second biggest opening weekend ever in the US.
In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark/Iron Man is still haunted by the events that took place in The Avengers but must fight against new baddie, the Mandarin.
Robert Downey Jr sparked speculation that he wouldn’t be back for another Iron Man film when he revealed that his contract with Marvel had run out.
But the studio’s president, Kevin Forge, said that Marvel wanted the star to play the superhero for ‘years to come’.
