Security will be stepped up at this weekend’s Kentucky Derby, just two weeks after the Boston Marathon explosions.

More than 150,000 people are expected at the race at Churchill Downs.

In addition to a ban on backpacks that’s been in place since 9/11, the new security restrictions include no camcorders, cans or coolers of any size; and women with purses larger than 12 inches will have to leave them at home.

The thousands going through the gates will have their bags thoroughly inspected, as well.

1200 federal, state and local officers will be out in force; that’s about 100 more since the Boston bombings.
