Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace star in this New York thriller from Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). Farrell is Victor, a loner who works for a gang run by Alphonse (Terrence Howard).
Rapace is his facially scarred neighbour, Beatrice. The attraction between them is evident but there’s more than meets the eye. As their worlds interweave, the mood veers from revenge thriller to psychological romance – with a dose of action.
It’s an uneven mix, with several plot strands running parallel, not least Victor’s complicated gangster games. But while it lacks the confident identity of Dragon Tattoo, there are interesting characters and ideas.
Rapace puts in her best English-language performance to date as the vulnerable yet seductive Beatrice, who has a humorous relationship with her hard-of-hearing mother (Isabelle Huppert). Farrell is credible as Victor while Dominic Cooper shows his versatility as Victor’s fellow gang member, Darcy.
