The new owner of The Advocate newspaper plans to expand.
When New Orleans business mogul John Georges bought The Advocate his model to compete east of Baton Rouge was to focus on quality local journalism, “We`re going to be working very hard for the readers of New Orleans. We`re going to make it a Newspaper that New Orleanians like to read.”
With a statewide circulation of 100,000 The Advocate is one of the only growing newspapers in the country.
Georges says plans to purchase The Advocate from the Manship family preceded the Times-Picayune’s decision to print only three days a week, “It’s been in the works for about two years. When they decided to sell they didn’t sell to an out of state person. So its Louisiana owned.
