ITV’s much-hyped new sitcoms Vicious and The Job Lot proved popular with viewers as both made their debut on the same night.
According to overnight figures the two shows – which screened during the 9-10pm slot vacated by Broadchurch – pulled in over 10m viewers between them, although Vicious proved the more popular of the two.
That show, which stars Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as ageing gay couple Freddie and Stuart, kicked off the comedy hour at 9pm and scored an impressive audience of 5.5m – adding 344,000 more to its total from ITV+1.
It debuted to mixed reviews from the critics, however, with many accusing it of being too old-fashioned, while others suggested it was trying too hard to be edgy.
